0 - 3 minutes:  Kelly Bermingham, BCBA, introduces her friend and co-host Jen Lucero (mother to Dylan and Ethan) and discusses the impetus behind today’s topic - ‘National Anti-bullying month_how this affects a child with ASD’’, including statistics around bullying and the 2022 Ethics Code for BCBAs and how it directly relates to anti-bullying efforts..


3 - 8 minutes: Kelly introduces friend and colleague Shadi Pourkashef, mother of a bullied ASD child, and founder of Kind and Safe School Programs to promote Ability Awareness. Shadi shares her story. 


9 - 16 minutes: The concept of by-stander engagement is discussed including the role of BCBAs in encouraging positive by-stander engagement. Jen shares insight about Dylan’s childhood and the importance of including Dylan in public situations..


16 - 24 minutes: ASD kids with a ‘protector’ or ‘advocate’ have a lower instance of being bullied and most bullying occurs outside of structured time (recess, etc.) Shadi discusses the thin line between being bullied and becoming the bully due to mimicry and current trends (as of 2021) of bullying, depression, suicide, abuse and neglect.
