6 - 18 minutes: Attitudes toward stereotypic behavior and development are discussed, including polarized opinions regarding whether or not stereotypic behavior should be addressed. Jen and Kelly reflect on stereotypic behavior in their own ASD children and how they approached treatment and intervention.
18 – 30 minutes: The long-term physical, emotional and social effects of stereotypic behavior are reviewed including parental concerns and consent/assent for intervention. Coping behavior vs destructive behaviors are discussed.
30 – 32 minutes: Wrap up.
